Unchapped Investigates: Chapstick Mixstix Green Apple Caramel DISCONTINUED?!

If your a fan of the Chapstick Mixstixes, don't panic yet.

Yesterday, I was on the Chapstick website looking for some info for my previous blog post. I noticed that when I clicked on Mixstix, only Stawberry Banana Smoothie and Lemon Berry Sorbet showed up. There was no mention of Green Apple Caramel.

I'm wondering if this means it's going to be discontinued soon or if it's just a mistake. I'm not sure how long the website's been like this, so it might mean nothing and it's just a fluke that's been missing for awhile.

I found that Green Apple Caramel is sold online on Drugstore.com and Walgreens.com. What's interesting is that although Walgreens sells all three flavors of Mixstix, Green Apple Caramel is the only flavor not available in Walgreens stores.

I did some research and I can't find anything about it possibly being discontinued. I decided to contact Chapstick today and I'm hoping to get a response soon. When I do, I'll update this post with the information I get.

UPDATE: I still haven't received a response from Chapstick, so I doubt I will. This mystery still remains unsolved. I have been looking for Green Apple Caramel in stores, and I haven't seen it.

New Lip Balm Roundup #1

I've been seeing many new lip balms available recently, so I thought I'd share for those of you interested in the new balms on the market. These have all been released within the last couple months.

Please note, all these lip balms are permanent unless I say otherwise. I made sure to include links to websites where you can buy these lip balms if you are interested. Also, none of these images are mine, and credit is given at the bottom of each one.

These first few have been out for a couple months, but I wanted to include them because they are still somewhat new and are now becoming widely available.

1. Eos Visibly Soft Lip Balm
Eos released this new formula, that is supposed to be more moisturizing than the original and leave lips super soft. It comes in two flavors, Vanilla Mint and Coconut Milk. I know that this lip balm is available in store and online at Walgreens and Ulta, as well as Drugstore.com.

2. Lypsyl Ultra Soothing Chamomile & Honey (Available only at Walgreens)
Yay, a new Lypsyl balm! This formula is supposed to soothe and condition dry lips. If your a Lypsyl fan like myself, this balm is a must.

3. Chapstick Dual-Ended Hydration Lock
Chapstick released these new balms in Day & Right and Moisturize & Renew. These balms are in the style of their Mixstix lip balms, but these have two different formulas in each instead of two different flavors. Day & Night has a lip balm with spf for the daytime, and a more moisturizing balm for the nighttime. Moisturize & Renew has the Moisturize side that smooths and reduces fine lines, while the Renew side is supposed to condition the lips. These balms are available in store and online at Walgreens and CVS, as well as in store at Rite Aid. They are also available online at Drugstore.com and Amazon

4. Blistex Ultra Rich Hydration
This new balm has an inner core and outer core to moisturize and protect. The blue inner core is supposed to be moisturizing, while the white outer core has ingredients to protect the lips. It's available at most drug and discount stores where Blistex balms are sold. It's also available on many websites online, including Drugstore.com and Walgreens.com.

These next couple balms I know are new, but I'm not sure exactly how long they've been out. It really depends what stores you have in your area and when they put stuff out.

5. Blistex Orange Mango Blast
When I heard about this balm, all I could think was yum! I assume the formula will be the same as Blistex's Raspberry Lemonade Blast, since the description on the Blistex website is almost exactly the same. I'm not sure where exactly this balm is sold in stores, but I assume most drug and discount stores where Blistex is sold. Online, it is available on Drugstore.com.

6. Burt's Bees Vanilla Bean and Wild Cherry Moisturizing Lip Balms
Burt's Bees added two new flavors to their range. I'm wondering if these are a whole new formula, or just new flavors of an existing formula; since it's unclear on the Burt's Bees Website. Anyhow, these are two classic flavors and I'm happy they added them to their line. I assume these are sold in most drug and discount stores that Burt's Bees products are sold in. Online, you can purchase these on the Burt's Bees website.

Lastly, here are a few balms that have just been spotted and have been popping up in certain locations recently. They should become more widely available within a few weeks.

7. Vaseline Lip Therapy Crème Brûlée
If you love the Vaseline lip balms in the mini Vaseline containers, this is one you might want to check out. Currently in addition to the original, their is a cocoa butter flavor and a rosy lips version. Now Vaseline has released a new flavor. I'm unsure if this Crème Brûlée flavor is limited edition, but I would assume it's permanent because it doesn't say otherwise on the packaging.

8. Walgreens Revo Limited Edition Collection for Halloween 2014
Last year we got a Holiday Collection, this year Walgreens is releasing a Halloween Collection. There are five flavors: Black Cat Cherry (Black), Chocolate Mint (Green), Ghoulish Grape (Purple), Pumpkin Spice (Orange), and Candy Corn (White). As you may know, these sphere lip balms are seen as a "dupe" for the eos lip balms, even though the formulas are very different. To see a picture of the display, check out Nouveau Cheap's blog post here. These currently aren't available online to my knowledge.

9. Eos Holiday 2014 Limited Edition Rachel Roy Set
This year, eos's holiday set has all NEW flavors. They collaborated with fashion designer Rachel Roy. The three flavors are: St. Barth's Sunrise (Pink Grapefruit), Aloha Hawaii (Strawberry Kiwi), and Indian Summer (Orange Blossom). These lip balms also each have a little wing design on each. These are currently available online at Drugstore.com and Ulta.com. They should be available soon in drug and discount stores that sell eos.

10. Eos Limited Edition Rachel Roy Lip Balm- Wildberry
And yes, eos is releasing ANOTHER Rachel Roy lip balm. This one is in Wildberry, and just like the set it has a little wing design on it. It's currently available online at Drugstore.com and Walmart.com

I hope that this post has made the hunt easier for you and alerted you about the new lip balms coming out. If you've tried any of these or are interested in buying them, I would love it if you'd leave a comment below. I've already purchased all of these lip balms except the Blistex Orange Mango Blast, the Vaseline one, and all the eos Rachel Roy lip balms. I can't wait to try the exotic flavors in the Rachel Roy set!

Burt's Bees Tinted Lip Balm Review- Hibiscus and Sweet Violet

As you may not know, I'm slightly obsessed with tinted lip balms. A few months back, I tried the Burt's Bees Tinted Lip Balm in Hibiscus. I was slightly disappointed, because it wasn't as pink as I thought it was going to be. It was expensive for a drugstore tinted lip balm, it was $7. I stashed it away and forgot about it. Ever since then, I've been looking at the full display in my CVS. Every time I was in there, I wanted to try Sweet Violet, but I told myself no for a long time because it was on the pricey side. I finally caved and decided to buy it.

It comes in a brown case. The color of the balm is at the bottom. It's hard to explain, but the actual tube of lip balm is inside. I like how you can see the color. I don't understand the need for the case. I never use the cases, because there's no point. The actual stick of lip balm isn't bulky. The stick is standard for a normal lip balm, it contains 0.15 oz. All the ingredients and facts about the lip balm are on the case. The packaging is quite boring because it's brown, but I honestly don't buy something because of the tube's color.

The texture of the balm is nice and smooth. It doesn't feel too thick and heavy on my lips. It's very comfortable to wear, like a normal lip balm. It goes on smooth and even. I think these tinted lip balms are some of the more moisturizing tinted lip balms. This lip balm contains Shea butter, lanolin, and coconut oil, which Dr. Oz says actually moisturizes the lips. It's also 100% natural, which is always a plus. Both don't really taste like anything. The smell is hard to describe, it's kinda natural smelling(makes sense). If that really bothers you, don't worry it's not very strong and after a few minutes you can't smell it on your lips.

Hibiscus: As I said before, this was the first one I got. I got it at some local store, where they only had three shades. I really wanted to try one, and there was a whitish pearly color, a red, and this color. I got this one because it looked like a rosey pink and the one I would wear the most. Honestly, it's more of an earthy toned carrot rose color. I think it would look better on warmer toned skin.

Sweet Violet: I recently got this one a few weeks ago at CVS. I really enjoy this color. This kind of plummy color family I love in tinted lip balms. Sheer plummy-purple colors like this add a tint of blue-based pink to my lips. This one is my favorite out of the two, and I would highly recommend this one.
*Sweet Violet is actually more pigmented then shown

Pros
  • Very moisturizing
  • Good color selection, they come in 9 shades
  • Comfortable to wear
  • Decent pigmentation for a tinted balm
  • Sweet Violet is a beautiful color
Cons
  • Expensive for a drugstore balm- $7
  • Personally, I don't like the color of Hibiscus

Would I recommend?
I would definitely recommend Sweet Violet. If you're looking for a good plummy tinted lip balm, this would be great to try out. I wouldn't recommend Hibiscus, but maybe it would look good on a different skin tone. I would love to try out more shades, I've got my eye on Pink Blossom.

You can see all the shades here, on the Burt's Bees website.

Update: I'm Back!

Hello everyone! Sorry that I've been MIA with only one review, I've been so busy in school. I'm planning on starting my blog up again. My collection has grown(I have at least 250 now!), and I've found a lot of really great lip balms to share with you. I lately became obsessed with tinted lip balms, I'm planning to share reviews and swatches of those too. There's a lot to come in the future.

If you've spotted any new or limited edition lip balms in stores, I would appreciate it if you would send me an email at leahunchapped@gmail.com with your name(so I can give you credit) and possibly a picture of the item or display. Thanks!

I hope to post at least once a week. I have just about every lip balm available in the drugstore, so leave requests in the comments for reviews or any other kinds of posts.

Thanks for reading,
~Leah

Review: E.l.f. Therapeutic Conditioning Lip Balm

I have the Therapeutic Conditioning Lip Balm in Strawberry Crème. It is at eyeslipsface.com or Target for $1(or at eyeslipsface.co.uk for £1.50). I got mine at Target, which mine only had the one flavor, but they also have vanilla and blackberry.

*Photo cred eyeslipsface.com

The packaging is similar to Softlips, and it contains 0.07oz of product. I don't mind the tall skinny, tube. For comparison, it's about as tall as a bottle of OPI nail polish. The top is clear but doesn't fall off easily.

When I apply this to my lips, it feels greasy. I don't mind thick lip balms, but this isn't thick, it's just like a layer of grease sitting on my lips. It slips and slides all over my lips. I would not recommend you use this if you want to put lipcolor over it, because it will slip and slide all over your lips and probably outside your lip line(plus you'll get a layer of grease on your lipstick, yuck!). This lip balm is supposed to smell like strawberries, but I don't really smell anything. Because it's so greasy and slippery, it tends to get in your mouth. The taste isn't pleasant. It's hard to describe, it's just a nasty lip balm taste.

I feel that this lip balm just sits on top of my lips and never sinks in. It doesn't really moisturize becaue it never really sinks in. After a while, I have to wipe it off or it will just sit there. When I do, my lips feel soft. The bad thing is that the softness doesn't last very long, and I could get that softness plus moisturization from other non-greasy lip balms.

Claims- all from eyeslipsface.com
"Salvation for parched lips"- False
"This innovative lip balm coats lips with natural nutrients and skin soothers to condition even the most sensitive lips"- Yes, it's good for sensitive lips and has natrual ingredients, but I wouldn't call it very conditioning

In conclusion, this is not a very good lip balm in my opinion. I don't find myself reaching for it very often. I would not recommend it, and would say to pass on this one(I can't complain too much though, it's only $1). I think I might just take the balm out of the tube and mix it into my homemade lip scrub to add some softness. I'll see how that works and keep you posted. Please leave your thoughts on this lip balm if you have tried it in the comments, I would love to hear them!

Welcome!

Welcome to Unchapped!

Hello, my name is Leah and this is my blog for lip balm/chapstick reviews! I'm a huge lip balm addict. I have quite an obession, but I can't help myself- I hate chapped lips! I love trying out all the different brands and seeing which one is the best. I constantly find myself reapplying lip balm throughout the day. I thought this would be a fun blog to do because I need to do something with all my opinions about lip b alms. I am looking forward to sharing my knowledge and opinions with you!

When I do a lip balm review, I will include all of these things:
Packaging: Is it hard to open? Does the cap fall off a lot? Is it bulky and obnoxious?
Smell/Taste: Basically this is just describing the smell and taste of the lip balm. I will include how strong the smell is, if it tastes nasty, my opinion on the smell, etc,...
Texture/Smoothness: Does it glide on my lips easily? Is it too greasy? Too dry?
Price: The price in USD. I may not always include this, because prices often vary.
Pros: The nice things about the lip balm. For example, if it contains SPF, organic, paraben free, no animal testing, etc,...
Moisture: This is the most important thing about a lip balm. This is how well it moisturizes my lips and keeps them unchapped

Besides reviews, I will also do updates on new and limited edition lip balm and first impressions on when I first get a lip balm. I will always use a lip balm for at least a few weeks before reviewing it.

I hope you enjoy my blog! Please feel free to comment on any of my posts telling me what you thought of the lipbalm. If you have any ideas or suggestions, please don't hesitate to contact me at leahunchapped@gmail.com
